Humble Beginnings
ScottsMiracle-Gro has been a major player in the turfgrass and lawn care industry for over 150 years. The company was founded in 1868 by Orlando McLean Scott in Marysville, Ohio and has since become one of the most recognized brands in the lawn care market.1
Mr. Scott was a pharmacist who had a passion for gardening and horticulture. When he began selling seed and fertilizer at his pharmacy, he realized there was a huge demand for lawn care products! He started experimenting with different varieties and created one that suited the northern climates. Changing Times
In 1905, Scott's son, Dwight, took over the business and began expanding the company's product line. He introduced a line of fertilizers and weed control products that were designed to work with his father's grass seed blends.3 By 1928, the well-known Turf Builder® fertilizer was born and would continuously be improved upon over the next century. In 1995, Scotts merged with Miracle-Gro, a company that was known for their high-quality soil and plant food, becoming one of the largest lawn and garden companies in the world. For more than 150 years, ScottsMiracle-Gro has continued to innovate and develop new lawn care products. These days, Scotts has expanded their product line to include other essentials, such as fertilizers, weed control, gardening supplies, and lawn tools.
